O pensamento de Agostinho de Hipona na controvérsia acerca do problema da vontade entre Calvino e Armínio

Resumo

Resumo: O presente artigo tem por objetivo investigar até onde a doutrina de Agostinho de Hipona influenciou os reformadores Calvino e Armínio na construção de suas convicções a respeito do papel da vontade humana na relação dos seres humanos com o Sumo Bem. Para a condução da pesquisa foram utilizados os principais textos dos referidos pensadores. Ao final, demonstrou-se que Calvino adotou, em parte, os ensinamentos de Agostinho; ao passo que Armínio seguiu caminho diverso, criando convicção contrária, sem, contudo, atacar as conclusões agostinianas.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to comprehend how much Augustine of Hippo’s doctrine influenced the reformers Calvin and Arminius in the construction of their convictions regarding the role of the human will in the relationship of human beings with the Supreme Good. I employed the most important texts of the abovementioned thinkers in my research. In the end, I demonstrated that Calvin took to, in part, the teachings of Augustine; while Arminius followed a different course, developing a contrary view, without, however, attacking the Augustinian conclusions.
