SOBRE A FORMAÇÃO INTELECTUAL E AS DISPOSIÇÕES MORAIS DO EXEGETA: Ensinamentos de Agostinho no De Doctrina Christiana

Resumo

Resumo: O presente trabalho busca evidenciar alguns elementos do De doctrina christiana de Agostinho de Hipona, nomeadamente as regras para a interpretação da Escritura e as disposições necessárias para a levar a efeito.
Para tanto, pretende-se fazer uma análise dos livros II-IV. Dar-se-á destaque às disposições morais e as intelectuais que o exegeta (ou aquele que se lança ao desafio de interpretar) deve possuir. Evidenciar-se-á, também, as regras de retórica para o orador, cuja finalidade deve ser sempre o ensino, o deleito e o convencimento; mas não um simples convencimento para ganhar uma disputa, e, sim, convencer o opositor à submissão e ao reconhecimento de Deus como Ser supremo. Por fim, deverá ficar claro a forte ligação que há entre a moralidade e o conhecimento na obra supracitada de Agostinho.

Abstract: This article points out some elements of the work by Augustine De doctrina christiana: the rules for the interpretation of the Bible and the dispositions required to its achievement.
For this purpose, we look at books II-IV, where Augustine highlights the intellectual and moral dispositions the exegete (or anyone who takes the challenge of construing) must hold. It also aims to explain the prominence of rhetoric rules in order to obtain the main goals of preaching – to teach, delight and convince. According to Augustine, preaching aims to convince not like a single conviction to win a contest but in order to drive and submit the opponent to the recognition of God as the Supreme Being.
Finally, it should be clear that in De doctrina christiana Augustine strictly connects both the intellectual and the moral role of knowledge – those who reach the truth may also lead a good life.
