Resumo

The study of Vie de Joseph Roulin and Maîtres et Serviteurs, both written by Pierre Michon, will allow the integration of their author into the modern contemporary French literature. Both texts explore the creative potentialities of overstepping or crossing the frontiers between literary genres, the dimension of auto-reflexivity, inherited from the Nouveau Roman, as well as the use of new strategies, different from those established by the tradition of the 19th century novel. They are both biographical fictions which make it possible to revise and to revisit the past by introducing four famous painters. Simultaneously, both texts favour the reflection on the act of creating and on the sociology of art.
