A simbologia numérica nos Commentarii Exegetici in Apocalypsim do Padre Brás Viegas, S. J.
Resumo
Fr. Brás Viegas, S. J.. was particularly well known in the 15th century for his exegetic works generally entitled Commentarii Exegetici in Apocalypsim. Manuel Lira was the man responsible for its first edition in Évora, in 1601, two years after the author’s death,. In this study we will seek to show how significant this work is, and at the same time draw attention to one of the characteristics of this apocalyptic literature, the numerical symbology, which reached its apogee with the use of Gematry a science practised by Hebrews and Greeks which attributed a numerical value to each alphabetical letter.
