Resumo
In this article the author analyses the books that influenced the formation of different forms of
spirituality in Spain during the 16th and 17th centuries. In this article the author identifies the similarities between the relationships established with the written texts, in three different, ancf, to some extent, heterodox areas: those who practised a proscribed religion (the Moors), those who experienced and lived their own view of the Catholic faith (pious women and Observant Nun.\and the important role played by women Particularly focussed is the role of reading. the type of texts read and the particular dimension of reading texts aloud in a group, which can be characterised. in some cases more clearly than others, as communities of readers or communities of interpretation Each community reading session was a way to reinforce the ties and identity 11'ithin the group, but it also led to a determinant praxis conditioned by the mediation of the reader, particularly when the group was reading and translating a text from an unfamiliar language, such as Arab among the Moors, and, when the reading \\'as carried out in a convent, thus being conditioned by a previous authorisation of the mother superior.
